Segasummasuvilast puukingadeni

Muuhulgas see valge Massimo Dutti pluus. 10 SEK!

IMG_2845.JPG

See on Eveliisi stiil!” Noh poteito potaato.

IMG_2911.JPGIMG_2919.JPG

Päris palju on raskeid hetki.

3

Peale seda kui ma mänguasjapoega kokku kolisin, on mul kaks korda Elsa külas käinud. Päris Elsa. Keebi ja kinnaste ja kleidiga. Sellised pisikesed hetked, mida tavalises 9-17 kontoritöös ette ei tule. Või tuleb?  See rõõm ja lust, mis on laste silmades kui nad mänguasjapoest saavad osta endale midagi, mida nad on kaua aega soovinud. Ma saan aru, kust tuleb väljend “nagu laps mänguasjapoes”.

Keelepraktika on olnud suurepärane. Ma olen teoorias alati norra keelt osanud, kuid üks asi on keel, mida sa kasutad lugedes või kuuled filmi vaadates, teine asi on päevast päeva keelekeskkonnas kohal olla. Oluline polegi ju see, kuidas me räägime, vaid et me räägime.

Mulle tuleb selliste külaskäikudega alati meelde see koht:

On vaja kinni pidada traditsioonidest.”

Enamasti on lõbus. Oh well…

IMG_0753

PUUUUHHHHHKUUUUUUS! Ma saan jälle lugeda. Mu Fabula raamatukogu on lugemata raamatutest lõhki minemas.

Everybunny needs somebunny sometimes

I don’t remember how or when I first saw those bunny sneakers, but I fell  in love at once. I didn’t remember the name of the designer, but I knew that one day I will have my all family wearing the matching bunny sneakers.

Aren’t these the coolest and sweetest things?

Although my family will probably not be wearing these cool sneakers too soon, the prices are ca 300 euro per pair and well…it is just too much for me. But they will stay on the wishlist (together with the “Egg” chair and Poul Henningsen lamp). One is allowed to dream!

Anyway.

The shoes are designed by a Finnish designer Minna Parikka. Once she fell down the rabbit hole and chose the world of shoe design at the age of 15, Minna started chasing her dreams. She moved to England at 19 to pursue a degree in footwear design, spending the next six years living, working and finding inspiration in London, Milan and Barcelona. In 2005 she returned to her native Helsinki to launch the Minna Parikka brand (read more on www.minnaparikka.com).

“MY DESIGNS ARE LIKE LOVE LETTERS FROM ONE SHOE LOVER TO ANOTHER. LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO TAKE STYLE TOO SERIOUSLY,” she states on her homepage.  Me like! Two thumbs up. Don’t you agree?

I have always been an admirer of ageless Finnish design, and actually the colourful modern things are usually not my cup of tea, but Minna Parikka design is just so playful and cool that you have to love it. *drooling over bunny sneakers*

News from our nEST

Do you know why I have been in Norway for over a year now? I got this CRAZY idea to open a shop with Estonian design in Norway. I am known for crazy ideas, but this one here… This is even beyoooond crazy.  I almost cannot believe that I actually made it happen. This has been the hardest year in my life – the losts, the lessons, the breakdowns – and if you ask me if I would dare to start with a project like nEST again, my answer would be “no”. It is insane risk and I also must say  thatbbefore opening the shop I freaked out and wanted to quit, I felt I don’t have enough knowledge ( and before maternity leave I had worked with export to Scandinavia for over ten years!).

The reason I continued was the signed agreements. Without it, I think I would not be in Norway today. I kept asking myself why the hell did I need all this.
But there probably is a reason. It has been more than a challenging year, for me, my family, it has been a year of critics, comments, rumours, but I have learnt a lot. As a entrepreneur, person, mother and wife. I know I have failed in many positions, as a mother and wife most, but the more I am thankful for the lessons, the reunions, new friends, who have become almost familymembers.
nEST has had better and worse times. The start was probably worst, a moderate growth followed and now I am back to worse. Moving the shop made me invisible and I start from zero again. It took six months to get people to visit the old shop, now it has gone five months and I finally see some interest again. I keep my fingers crossed that my efforts will have a result.
Will I survive while waiting? I really really really hope. Is hope enough to succeed?
I have smiled, cried, been bitter, disappointed, sad …The year has been an emotional roller coaster, but I think perhaps all this negative is actually in a way a positive thing. It made me think and move. In directions I thought are impossible. Isn’t the impossible often the untried? And now I try. It’s too early to talk about anything, but I am working.
I wish to thank everyone who have had the patience to be on this ride with me. It means a lot to me.

You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.

Hidden treasure. And where? In Moelv?

I have taken the train from Oslo to Lillehammer thousands of times since 1997, but not once during these almost 20 years have I been to Moelv – a small town before Lillehammer and I have always thought it´s one of those ghost towns with now people and no life. I don’t know where I got it from, but this is what I have thought about Moelv for 19 years.

Two months ago we moved to Ringsaker and instead of driving to Lillehammer, we now turned to a road via Moelv. Can you imagine how surprised I was when I saw main street in lovely evening lights and people walking on the street? It turned out Moelv is a charming little town. I felt ashamed. And then I saw this house. Cafe Johnsen ( http://artdeco-retro.no/om-oss/)

318393_100690946753435_1541131488_n

Cafe in an old house, together with a retro/art deco second hand shop. I am a sucker for places like this. I dream of having a small café+shop  just like that. It has always been my dream. And there it was – like a dream. In Moelv. Town I had thought has no life. I had no idea that a small treasure like this could be hidden there.

During Easter Holiday we decided to pay this shop/café a visit ((we live 15 km from Moelv) . My friend said they have the best homemade cakes there. I love cakes. More than life. So of course we sat in car and drove there.

You know, I actually have no words to describe this place. It was beyond belief. It was like a secret world hidden in children’s fantasies, a world that opens when you knock on that mysterious door in the cupboard. It was like a Villa Villekulla full of most amazing old things. A Poul Henningsen lamp was one of the first things I saw. Have I told you that I have another dream? No? It includes an Artichoke, a Swan and Danish Design. Yes, I mean an Arne Jacobsen chair and Poul Henningsen lamp.

IMG_1316

This shop is without one of the coolest shops I have visited. Unfortunately the prices for me (at the moment!) are unreachable, but seriously if you like old things this is the place to visit. The owners have an extraordinary good taste. I am sorry my photos are not with the best quality, but just to give you a hint, here are some examples of things they have in their selection.

Gerhard2269-copy

It was hard not to notice this painting. For a second I felt like a teenager. Or a desperate houswife. Wait a second? But I AM a desperate housewife. No wonder this painting caught my eye;)

i1674375-1

We have an expression in Estonian “like an Elephant in a China Shop”, I looked at my 2,5years old and kind of felt she is the elefant from that expression. A cute one, but still an elephant. I was afraid she will break something extreamly valuable, so we headed back to the café part.

IMG_1291.JPG

Oh, wait – before we go to café, take a look upstairs. The chairs, the coach…Do I need to say more? I don’t know if they live there, but it sure is full of warmth and love and of course good taste.

IMG_1299

And then the café. When I said one of the first things I noticed was the Poul Henningsen lamp I actually lied. The first I noticed was one of the owners who greeted us with the biggest smile (he recognized my friend) and asked if we would like to have coffee and home made “rullekake”. Ida received an ice cream. As said, the café looks like Pippi Longstocking is living there and as a huge fan of Pippi, I of course liked the café as well.

“But I have to go and tell Gerhardt that you are here”, Bjørn says and runs up to the second floor. A minute later his (life)partner comes down. He’s barefoot and casually dressed, but looks oh so elegant. He smiles like a diva, greets us with hugs and compliments my scarf. I am in love! Too bad I am married. Okay I am kidding, but these two gentelmen…They are so charming. (Note to self: perhaps I should visit the shop tomorrow?)

IMG_1309

IMG_1317

We eat the cake (which is delicious!), chat and as little fashionista is in a bad mood we thank for us and leave the magical world of Art Deco . The two owners continue with their everyday work…

Make sure you visit them when you are in Moelv. Or in Lillehammer, take the extra trip to Moelv. Don’t be like my who judged the town for 19 years without even being there.

(Note to self: maybe I should move my shop to Moelv. It seems to be a cooler/more hipster town than Lillehammer?)

Three of the photos used in this post I borrowed from their homepage. I hope they don’t mind.

That annoying shop in Lillehammer*

There is this one shop on main street in Lillehammer you just cannot miss. The “Folk og Røvere”  shop.  It is especially hard to miss it at the moment when it looks like a ginger bread house. Or a house from Hansel and Gretel fairytale?  What a genious idea for Christmas I thought when I first saw this. Absolutely fabulous. A part of me applauded for their creativity and the other part was green of envy.  As you have understood I also have a small shop in Lillehammer and we all try to do our best to get the customers, but I must honestly say that no one comes even near Folk og Røvere when it comes to creative thinking. l absolutely adore what they are doing. But you do understand why I say they are annoying? Their tough girls, hard competition to beat.

IMG_0327

But there is more to this shop than an amazing exterior. At the moment you walk into the shop, you fell in love. It’s the atmosphere, the aura, the feeling, the smell. Everything is perfect. A cozy and a bit perfectly messy little interior and clothes, gifts shop. Yes, yet again I have to say “annoyingly perfect”.

Oh, and when it comes to goods, I think I am safe to say they also have the best choice in town. Okay, Cathinkas Stue and Spot also have a great choice of women’s clothes, but when it comes to childrens fashion – no one can beat this little shop.

I cannot wait to show you the absolutely adorable pink coat Britt Ida got from her Norwegian grand aunt! It was -70% off and for 540 kroner we got a coat that makes every little girl a Fashionista. Now we only miss a hat, a scarf, shoes, dress, skirt, shirt from this shop;) Note to self: buy lottery. woman. It doesn’t help praying for that million on lotto if you don’t buy the ticket!

So, when in Lillehammer, this is the place to visit if you love nice (and a bit pricy) things. You probably will not miss the shop anyway, when you walk on the main street, but just in case, here’s also the address. Storgata 48.

*I hope you all understand that the “annoying” is not in any ways ment to offend or hurt anyone, but a compliment from a competitor;)

IMG_0312

When the shop looks like made of cookies and candies…

IMG_0311

…this can happen
